QuHacks is a day-long hackathon by students, for students. Join us for a day of creation, innovation, and fun with fellow middle and high schoolers interested in coding. From seasoned coding veterans to first-time programmers, all are welcome to join.
Discover your ability to create change by developing technology to solve real-world problems, attend workshops, and meet some new friends. We can't wait to see you there!
Hannah is a senior at Marriotts Ridge High School, where she plays the mellophone in the marching band and plays an active role in the math team and SHE++ club. She is also the head coach for the Mount View MathCounts team. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, listening to and playing music, coding, and playing with her cat, Major.
Michelle is a senior at Marriotts Ridge High School, where she is involved in Science Olympiad, FBLA, SHE++, generationOn, NHS and French NHS. She is also the co-president of a non-profit organization called BranchOut. In her free time, she enjoys coding, hanging out with her 2 cats, and making Spotify playlists.
Richard is a senior at Centennial High School and is a member of the tennis team, badminton club, and CHS Graphics. He spends most of his free time practicing tennis, fiddling with PCs, and experimenting with graphic design. He is almost always sleep deprived and listening to music.
Nadine is a senior at Centennial High School, where she is a member of her school’s math team, Science Olympiad, Girls Who Code club, Tri-M society, Girl Up club, and cross country team. In her free time, she enjoys programming, listening to music, and playing the clarinet and piano.
Abishay is a junior at Mt. Hebron high school and is a part of the tennis team, FBLA, computer science club, and president of the Cybersecurity club. He spends his free time playing tennis, programming, or listening to music.
Faith is a senior at Glenelg High School and she is a part of Tri-M, Book Club, and Glenelg’s symphonic band. She also plays clarinet, guitar, and piano in her free time as well as eating snacks, sleeping, and hanging out with friends. She also plays around with digital art and other forms of drawing and doodles.
Anna is a sophomore at Marriotts Ridge High School, where she is involved with SHE++, speech, HOSA, and FBLA. Outside of school, she is part of the HopeWorks Youth Leadership Program, the APL STEM Academy, EK2K&BC, TeCanal, and MathTrekz. In her free time, Anna loves spending time with her family and playing the piano, violin, viola, and guitar.
Adam is a junior at Centennial High School. He participates in Mock Trial, Graphic Design Club, Film Club, National English Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honors Society, Spanish Honor Society, Quill and Scroll Honor Society, Math Journal, FBLA, pit band, marching band, steel drum band, and jazz band. In his free time, he enjoys computer science, food, and music.
Jeffrey is a senior at the Gilman School, where he heads both their Hydroponics Initiative and Science Club. He also competes on their Science Bowl, It’s Academic, and Varsity History Bowl teams. Outside of school, Jeffrey can be found running (either for leisure or away from teachers trying to find him), tending to his plants, messing with his cat, trying not to burn down his kitchen cooking, making spotify playlists, playing piano, and lifting enough weight to bend the barbells.
A hackathon is a coding marathon - it's like a real-time programming fair where students develop an idea and bring it to life through code. A project could be a game, website, app, robot, Arduino project, whatever! If you enjoy programming or technology in general, hackathons are great places to meet friendly, like-minded people.
No, you don't! Even if you aren't able to code beforehand, you can attend workshops, learn some code, and still submit a project.
Participation is limited to students currently enrolled in high school and middle school students above the age of 13. If you have already graduated high school but would still like to attend the event, please consider volunteering or mentoring for the event! We recommend that you bring a laptop (One per team is fine). Laptops aren't required, but it won't be easy to code on lined paper.
Anyone caught working on past projects will be forced to sit in the corner and wear the dunce hat. Seriously though, don't be that one guy.
No problem! Many participants arrive without a team, and you can meet and work with new people. You can also choose to work alone. The limit is 4 people per team.
At some point, Freddy had a cheesy description here. However, we can't seem to decide what Freddy is, so we'll just say he's that one duck you keep seeing around incomplete parts of this website.
